RevRoad Hosts 5th Annual Entrepreneur Competition
Over $31,000 in cash and in-kind prize money for winning entrepreneurs
PROVO, Utah — On Saturday, September 17th, Utah County’s up-and-coming entrepreneurs arrived at the 2022 RevRoad Entrepreneur Competition trade show, eager to showcase their companies to judges, event sponsors, and community members. Audience members interacted with the competitors during the tradeshow and then sat quietly as the entrepreneurs pitched their companies during the semifinal round. The judge’s panel includes some of Utah’s finest business and university leaders, including James & Andrea Clarke, McKenzie Bauer, Emily Bell McCormick, and Scott Petersen.
The judges deliberated after each 5-minute pitch and 2-minute Q&A, then named the six finalists—Wümgo, Right Angle Engineering, DreamCare, Errand, Smack Social, and Immersive History.
Nicole Berriman, member of the 2022 judge panel and Utah Business Event Coordinator, said, “I’m looking for people who are confident in what they are talking about. You can do all the work and have a great idea, but if you don’t believe in what you’re doing then honestly you’re not going to end up selling. So I’m looking for confidence.”
During the final round, each finalist pitched their company again to a live audience of over 200 attendees and 35 judges. Subsequently, the judges entered a private discussion while audience members enjoyed a pizza lunch and mechanical bull riding. Judging criteria included target market, problem and solution fit, team and advisors, leadership, traction, competitive advantage, and financials. After careful analysis, the judges named the following companies as winners:
- $10,000 Central Bank Grand Prize for the Champion: Awarded to Errand
- $2,500 cash, sponsored by Squire, for the Runner-Up: Awarded to Right Angle Engineering
- $1,000 cash for the 3rd place prize: Awarded to DreamCare
- $1,000 cash prize for the fan favorite: Awarded to Yummy’s Korean BBQ
- $5,000 cash prize for the Global TrailBlazer: Awarded to Wümgo
- $1,500 cash prize for the E-Commerce Product winner: Awarded to Surfmongers
- $5,000 value prize for Executive Suite winner: Awarded to BankHunter and SmackSocial
*Note: All cash prizes are NOT tied to an investment or equity.
Errand’s Chief Marketing Officer, Claire Larsen said, “This is the first Entrepreneurship competition we’ve done since starting our business. It’s really cool to see all of our hard work after nine months come to a head and get recognized at this point.”
